Palestinians Need More Than Empty Resolutions
Speaking at the meeting, the Qatari minister called on the U.S. to resume its intermediary role in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and try to revive the so-called peace process by using its influence to bring the Zionists to the negotiating table.
It is very unfortunate that despite the dark record of the U.S. mediation in the Mideast conflict and its blind support for the Zionist entity, the officials of some Arab countries still view Washington as the savior of the Palestinian nation.
What these Arab officials fail to realize is that but for the U.S. unconditional military, political and financial support for the Zionists, they would never have been able to continue with their flagrant crimes against the oppressed Palestinians in contravention of the international law and the UN resolutions.
Several UN Security Council resolutions issued in support of the violated rights of the Palestinians have remained in limbo for the past half a century because the Zionist regime, enjoying the unrestrained support of Washington, has refused to implement them. And the United States, which was quick to punish Iraq by imposing sanctions for its noncompliance with the UN resolutions, has impudently turned a blind eye to the open violations by this rogue state, which was illegitimately conceived through the agency of Britain and the United States in 1948.
Thus, it may seem surprizing why some Arab officials are still asking Washington to resume its diabolic role in the Middle East, the role which under the Clinton administration was aimed at forcing the Palestinian people to submit to the Zionist demands and forgo their birthrights. But considering that some of these Arab countries are still openly or surreptitiously maintaining their relations with the Zionist entity itself, such request should not seem surprising anymore.
The fact is that certain Arab states claiming to have broken off their relations and closed their doors to the Zionist regime following the escalation of brutalities against the Palestinian nation have actually opened their back windows to the butchers of the innocent Palestinians.
The rulers of these Arab countries should bear in mind that the continuation of relations with the occupier and oppressor Zionist regime will be recorded in history as a betrayal of the Palestinian nation.
Instead of issuing empty resolutions in condemnation of Zionist atrocities and inviting aliens to resume their interference in the region, the OIC members should take a firm and united stand against the Zionist entity and its patron, the United States. In other words, they should break all ties with Israel in order to isolate it in the region and downgrade their diplomatic and economic relations with Washington so as to punish it for its blind support for this entity.
In the meantime, the OIC members should explore all possible avenues of extending assistance to the Palestinians in their sacred struggle against occupiers of their homeland.
